Current Obsession: 90s/Early 2000s Revival

If the Poetic Justice braids, backwards snapback, and bamboo hoops weren't enough of a clue, I am currently obsessed with this whole late 90s/early 2000s throwback going on.This is what I wore when I went to Bruno Mars' concert in DC on 6/22/13 (hence the tee). The earrings are from claire's/icing, the hat is from urban outfitters, the tee is from hot topic (no longer available, sorry!), the vest is from Macys, and the lipstick is Candy Yum Yum by MAC (I got it for free due to the MAC recycle program, check it out!)

As a product of the 90s, all of these fashions like the transparent raincoats, snapbacks, bright colors, funky lipsticks, and pop princess inspired clothes are so nostalgic and remind me of my childhood watching endless Nickelodeon, non stop Lizzie McGuire, countless amounts of Clueless and listening to (and still do listen to) Christina Aguilera, Backstreet, NSync, Britney Spears, Spice Girls, Mandy Moore, Robyn, 5ive, Savage Garden and so many more cavity enducing bubblegum pop acts! Just being able to remember when these looks were hip and new is such an awesome feeling! & seeing them come back is even better!

Love it or leave it?: Overalls

Hey there lovelies,
I was recently on the interwebs (particularly tumblr, which you should check out and follow RIGHT CHEA), and I've noticed one common theme....OVERALLS! *dramatic horrror music and scream* Yea, remember those things we wore back in Pre School and then went through a period of pure hatred towards during that awkward "I'm not a little kid" phase during the 5th grade? Yep, they're hip now and in my opinion....THEY ARE SO TOTALLY ADORABLE. I will be rocking this comfortably chic piece all summer in both a chic and casual way! Some days I might go straight up '94 and rock a band tee and some docs, while on another day I'd gladly wear heels and a bandeau underneath. I'm gonna DIY a pair and post the hopefully delightful results on here for all of my babies to see!

SPIKED SHORTS.

Hey everybody! :) So remember those spikes I told you about? Yeah well I made some shorts with them!

Materials
-Scissors
-Spikes
-Your Camera Phone
-OPTIONAL tailor's chalk &Screw driver

this is what you do:
ok, so first you're gonna just lay your spikes on your shorts in the pattern that you're gonna screw them in. After you do that, take a picture of it! Then using your scissors, poke TINY holes in the right spot using the picture as a reference point so that you can now screw those spikes in (make the screws extra tight using a screwdriver). When you're done, go flaunt your hot new shorts!

PS- instead of taking a picture, you can mark off the spots where your spots are gonna go using the tailor's chalk.

Fashion Icon: the conscious rapper of the 90s

Ookay, y'all may or may not know this, but I LOVE conscious rap (Asher Roth, Lupe Fiasco, De La Soul, Q Tip, Pharcyde, Arrested Development, Common, Nas, etc). Dont get me wrong, I like a good dose of Eminem in my life, but these types of rappers just do something for me. I'm not just in love with their conscious lyrics, but their crazy fashion! Its a mix of blipster, skater, afrocentric and hippie all in one big ball! It was a very zany sort of look! Google some of those artists and you'll see.. googled yet? Haha crazy right? I'm gonna tell you how to get that style (in a girly way of course)

Skinny Jeans, and leggings. You could probably get away with shorts (with tights in the winter) if you'd like!

^^ "Runnin" by The Pharcyde is one of the best hiphop songs i've ever heard in my life. While its not as funny as "Ya Mama" and "Pack The Pipe", its a more jazzy, mature sounding track that makes you think (both the song and the video honestly haha)

Get The Look: Around the Way Girl

Before I begin my terrible puns and alliterations, I'd like to give a shoutout to http://aroundthewaygirl.blogspot.com/ for inspiring this post :-)

BACK TO THIS POST! Now I bet you beautiful souls are wondering what an around the way girl is. An around the way girl has been defined as "a girl with extentions in her hair, bamboo earrings at least two pairs" by the wonderful mister LL Cool J. I, however, slightly disagree with mister Cool J's definition. I'm definitely a sassy, stylish, girl next door that is known to rock some bamboo earrings, but I don't wear weave or have a nasty attitude.

BEFORE I COMPOSE MY DEFINITION, I'm gonna give you all a "shopping list".
-your freshest kicks (doesn't matter if theyre nike, jordan, vans, or zips, if you think theyre fresh, so do I lol)
-the skinniest skinny jeans you can find in your closet (leggings/yoga leggings work as well, wild prints are hot lol) & double brownie points if they're cuffed
-a loose tank, a fitted tee, a crop top, muscle shirt or whatever kind of blouse your little heart desires.
-A dookie chain (I got mine from Forever 21 so dont worry about price, it was cheap)
-bamboo earrings (of course)
-whatever other jewelry you LOVE (preferably gold)
-a bold cat eye, or a bold lip, or both if you're that much of a thug!!
-a trucker hat or snapback (or a fedora if you can pull it off!)

NOW THIS IS 'MY' DEFINITION OF AN AROUND THE WAY GIRL.
An around the way girl is: a young girl that isnt afraid to be herself & wears what makes HER happy. Whether that be her favorite kicks and a tee, or a pair of 20 inch stilettos & a dress, it doesn't really matter because she's confident. The only issue I have with LL's definition is that he describes her in a way in which she sounds kinda like a ghetto snob, boushie or just straight up siditty lol. But yeah, all ranting aside, I really LOVE this song and the underlying meaning; a confident girl next door with crazy cool fashion!

Fashion Icon: Fresh Prince Of Bel-Air

Iiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiin West Philadelphia born and raised.... (I triple dog dare you to finish it!)
So if you haven't already guessed, this blog post is dedicated to the funky fresh fashions that were made popular by Little Willie From Philly  on his hit TV show, the fresh prince of bel-air! Since this blog is so new, I think I might have to make this statement solid and in all caps, lol! So here it goes : I AM TOTALLY OBSESSED WITH 90'S NOSTALGIA & NERDY BLIPSTERS. This is due to the fact that 1) I am a product of the 90s and 2) I love what I am, lol ;-) This will be 100% evident in my future posts.

So let's dissect this look one piece at a time :-)

FIRST OFF- The hats!

Oh sweet baby Jesus!! Will always had the stupid hats! They were crazy!!

Ahhhh, I LOVE bamboo earrings, I buy all of mine from Icing by Claire's & they're only $10!! But every time I've been in there, they were 50% off!!!!!

Will wore some crazy day-glo clothing, not like De La Soul status, but y'know funky fresh!

for this, I'd probably wear a phat denim jacket(since its summer, a denim vest would be more practical) and and a t-shirt with the craziest design you can find!

You can find these bad boys at Macy's, Pac Sun, Old Navy, Gap, OR you could just be the crafty individual you are and cut the sleeves off of a denim jacket (one that you dont mind cutting of course).

A tee shirt like this is awesome!! I have one with a blonde girl on it that I got from Zumiez for $20. This shirt is perfect because it's neon, the little girl is fresh to death & its like a throwback to Yo! MTV Raps!! So for this, we're gonna want a very slim look on the bottom! The best choice would be a pair of yoga leggings (just go to PINK, they're only $34, lol) or some skinny jeans (I SUGGEST TARGET!).
